Rural Connections Between Time
Working alongside the family home, the farmhouse and stable buildings make up the Stanyards Farmstead, a heritage asset to local culture and people. We were given the chance to work with this beautiful historic piece of local vernacular architecture and develop a sensitive and playful approach to making a contemporary home for a growing family.
The proposed design sensitively organises the existing farm buildings through controlled and contemporary fenestration. This unites the traditional building features with clearly composed architectural picture frame windows and vertical rhythmic courtyard glazing.
The regenerated buildings are connected to one another and to the landscape through a glass faceted insertion that is situated between the two existing building forms. The new landscape blends stone and timber into the surrounding topography.
